Mashinsky, Founder, Chairman and Chief Technology Architect
Alex Mashinsky is a successful serial entrepreneur
in the communications industry and best known as the founder
and former CEO of Arbinet-thexchange (www.thexchange.com). Arbinet-thexchange has emerged as the leading real-time exchange for the buying,
selling and physical delivery of global telecommunications
capacity. At Arbinet-thexchange, Mr. Mashinsky identified the trends
of the commoditization of voice capacity and the growing importance
of convergence of voice and data networks. He secured over
17 patents related to the real-time exchange of voice capacity
and the protocol conversion necessary to transport voice between
PSTN and IP-based data networks. Mr. Mashinsky is a recognized
expert on dynamic bandwidth trading and has been a featured
speaker at over 120 conferences worldwide. Today, over 200
of the world's leading carriers actively trade minutes through thexchange. The platform he envisioned and helped create is perhaps
the most sophisticated back-office in the international telecommunications
industry, having integrated real-time network QOS, pricing,contract,
and risk management, and having successfully integrated over
20 leading vendors of OSS applications and hardware in order
to enable real-time end-to-end trading of global voice capacity.
In addition to founding the company and acting as CEO from
inception in 1995 through December 1999, he helped to secure
and make a successful transition to a senior, world-class
management team including the former CEO of GE Information
Services and the former COO of AT&T Broadband who serve
as thexchange's Executive Chairman and CEO respectively.
Mr. Mashinsky is also a co-founder of Comgates, a spinout
of thexchange based in Herzeliya Israel, which is a leading provider
of softswitch technology.
